We uesed the church as our location because it fitted th genre of religious thriller. It was chosen to be this church because with some good camera framing it would look like an old film. The big old wooden doors at the entrance where good because they looked a little bit shabby. All the brick work was all flaking off aswell so that was another good feature of the church that helped make the film look old.

Mies-en-scene for thriller
Mise-en-scene
The Actors
In our opening for our thriller we do not have many actors because we do not want to over crowd the scene. This in mind, we are only having two actors in the whole of the extract. The two characters are going to be a young adult and a priest. The young adult will be played Joe. And the priest will be played by my dad. We think that age is important as if we had a teenager playing the priest, well it just wouldn’t be realistic. This is why we have decided to get an older person to play the part.
Location
We also take location just as seriously. As a group we researched on different places to have the scenario. Obviously, with a priest, you would want a church. So we all looked into different churches in Spalding in which we could get permissions to film in. Eventually, we got the permissions to film in St Mary’s church in Spalding providing there was no dialogue in the church and that we kept to people’s privacy as it is a public church.
Make-up and Costumes
The young adult won’t need any make up and would only need to wear everyday clothing. However, with the priest, we want a look to make him look like he’s already been up to no good. We want him to look pale and ‘scary’in a way. We are dressing the priest in a large robe with a dog collar. We were thinking about a scar that runs down his face. We may be able to get hold of a make-up designer to help us out.
Props
During this extract we only use a minimal amount of props. We are going to use 4/5 crosses to put the credits on, outside by the church. We think this will be effective as it gives the audience a sense of death before the action starts so they know what they’re in for. We are also using a bible for the boy to use to pray.
Terms and Conditions
To get permission for using the church, we had to agree to some term and conditions.
These conditions are to follow:
These conditions are to follow:
- We must show all respects for the church
- We must keep quiet and there must be no diagetic dialogue
- We must keep to peoples privacy and not get any of the general publics faces in the shots.
- We must be out of the church by 5:00pm
- We are not allowed into the church until 9:00am
- If people are to come over and talk to us about what is going on we must stop our work and tell them what's going.

Evaluated questions
The top rated sub-genre is psychological thriller. We have done our thriller with this in mind having a rather scary priest who is creepy and he plays with poples heads as will be seen in the opening.
The best thing people liked about a thriller is suspended we are using suspence in the way that the audience know the priest is there but the boy doesn't this makes the audience more tense we believe.
The largest chosen director was Steven Spielburg we couldn't really link this to our price because we are directing it ourselves.
Surprising twists came in at number one on what appeals to our target audience and we don't really have this but it could unfold in the later part of the film which we aren't focusing on.
Most people think props costume and make up are important we have taken this on bored and made our main focus to be on props and costume in our opening.
Our questionnaire says that the plot is the most important element of a thriller film so this is the reason we spent a lot of time writing the plot out and matcking it to the shot list.
Music is the main thing that builds suspence acording to our target audience this is why we aim to use it as affectivly as we can we have looked into ideas of wht should be cool and have a good idea in our heads.
In our two mins of the film we do have the action unfolding quite quickly because this is what our audience want.
It is set in the present because that is what the audience want it is also better because it makes it closer to home for the viewer.
In our piece we have as little plot reviled as we can we want the audience to question what this man is doing and why.
